Oran O’Connor expects to graduate in December 2022 with a master’s degree in data science with a focus on statistics from the Florida State University Interdisciplinary Data Science Master’s Degree Program, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Prior to his time at FSU, he earned an undergraduate degree from University College Cork in Cork, Ireland.

Long before he became a distinguished research professor of mathematics at Florida State University, Richard Bertram was a curious graduate student who joined the Society for Mathematical Biology in hopes of further connecting his interests and research in math and biology.

When asked how it feels to be the first graduate of the Interdisciplinary Data Science Master’s Degree Program in Florida State University’s history, Luke Van Popering shrugged and chuckled. “Presumably how it feels being the second graduate or third graduate,” Van Popering said, swiftly avoiding any opportunity to brag about the accomplishment.

A Florida State University statistician has been named a fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), one of the most esteemed designations in the field.

Chen Mu graduated in 2021 with a Ph.D in industrial engineering from the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering, and in 2019, he graduated with a master’s degree in statistical data science from FSU’s Department of Statistics, part of the College of Arts and Sciences.

An FSU interdisciplinary research team, led by Dr. Zhe He, has received the Best Interdisciplinary Research Award from the 2021 Aging and Health Informatics Conference (AHIC) for its presentation “Machine Learning-Based Predictions of Older Adults’ Adherence to Technology-Based Cognitive Training."
